Design and Solutions

About

AImagine is a new AI-powered extension for Autodesk® 3ds Max® that lets you generate, enhance, and explore visual ideas directly inside your viewport – without long render times. Use your existing renders or even your live viewport to create variations, new lighting setups, design moods, or material updates – all powered by today’s most advanced image generation models. Whether you’re refining a concept for a client or creating new images for your portfolio, AImagine helps you work faster and more creatively.

Key Features

  • AI Image Generation Inside 3ds Max – Generate high-quality visual variations directly from your renders or viewports using both local and cloud models.
  • Dual Image Workflow – Compare two images side by side — left and right — and generate new versions or enhancements based on your reference or prompt.
  • Prompt-Based Control – Use text prompts to describe exactly what you want to see. Combine your 3D render with natural language to guide the AI.
  • Connect with Cloud APIs – Easily integrate models from Google, Replicate, MyArchitectAI, StabilityAI, FreePeak using your own API keys.
  • Local Model Support (ComfyUI Integration) – Run image generation locally using ComfyUI or other compatible APIs — no internet connection required.
  • Style Transfer & Editing – Apply the look of one image to another, or use AI to adjust lighting, mood, and details in your scene.
  • Gesture Shortcuts for Speed – Access all major functions with simple mouse gestures — load viewports, renders, or APIs with just a drag.
  • Custom API Configuration – Create, copy, and edit API profiles with custom parameters, prompts, and output folders.
  • Upscaling and Enhancement – Improve image resolution and add detail using built-in upscaling models.

APIs and Models

  • Cloud APIs (such as Google, Replicate, MyArchitectAI, StabilityAI, FreePeak and others) require the user to register an account with the respective provider and create an API key to connect the service with AImagine.
  • Some providers may offer free tiers or trial credits, while others require an active paid subscription for continued use.
  • Any registration, usage fees, or billing related to these APIs are handled directly between the user and the API provider.
  • Local models (e.g., ComfyUI integrations) run entirely on your computer and do not require internet access or additional registration.
  • Most paid APIs include full commercial rights for generated images, while free or experimental models may include specific limitations.
  • Please review each license and usage policy before using generated images commercially.

Requirements

  • Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2021 or newer
  • Windows® 10 or later
  • Internet connection (for online APIs)
  • Optional: Local installation of ComfyUI for local generation

Interface

Image Panels (Left & Right)

AImagine uses a dual-image layout so you can compare, iterate, and refine quickly.
Load any combination of sources—renders, viewports (shaded or wireframe), or files—into the Left and Right panels. Each panel can be the input for generation or the target for new results, making side-by-side comparisons effortless.

Prompt & Actions

Use the Prompt area to describe your desired changes (lighting, materials, season, style, etc.).
Generate with one click, or continue from the last generated image using the dedicated button. You can also reuse recent prompts with a quick shortcut (see Tips & Shortcuts).

Menus & Gesture Shortcuts

Every common action is available from the top menu—and via a gesture ring right on the image.
Click inside a panel and drag slightly outside its frame to reveal a labeled shortcut. This keeps your focus on the artwork, not the UI.

Top gestures (left → right):

  • Load Left Image from File
  • Load Rendered as Left Image
  • Load Viewport as Left Image
  • Center: Reset Both Images
  • Right of Center: Same three options for the RIGHT image

Bottom gestures (left → right):

  • Generate Left Image (selected API)
  • Generate Left Image (U1) (User 1 quick API)
  • Generate Left Image (U2) (User 2 quick API)
  • Bottom Center: Configuration Dialog
  • Right of Center: Same generation options for the RIGHT image

Side gestures:

  • Left side: Open LEFT image in 3ds Max
  • Right side: Open RIGHT image in 3ds Max

A small text label appears inside the image while you drag, confirming the action you’re about to trigger.

View Controls

Work comfortably at any scale:

  • Fit to Window keeps both images sized to your layout and auto-adjusts on resize (optional Auto Fit when zooming near the frame).
  • Actual Size (1:1) shows pixel-accurate detail for evaluation.
  • Center/Reset Slider instantly restores the comparison bar to the middle.
  • Open in 3ds Max (Left/Right) sends either image to Max for further inspection, saving, or channel comparisons.

API Selector & Profiles

APIs are grouped by provider (e.g., Google Gemini, ComfyUI, Replicate, etc.).
Choose a model, tweak parameters (aspect ratio, match input size, steps), and generate to Left or Right.
You can assign User 1 and User 2 quick APIs for one-drag generation via the bottom gestures.

Configuration & Keys

Open Configuration to copy, rename, and customize APIs—or switch request templates (Flux, ControlNet, Stable Diffusion, Image Edit, Style Transfer).
Add your API keys once in Custom Settings (group-level) or override per API when needed.
Each local ComfyUI model includes an Info tab with license and usage details.

Status & Output

Set a Working/Output Folder so all results save to one place.
Open that folder directly from the menu.
A Status Label (toggleable) shows recent actions (e.g., selected API, saved path, generation result).

Tips & Shortcuts

Prompt HistoryCtrl + ↑ (Up Arrow): Cycle backward through your last prompts (up to 20)
Quick ExecuteCtrl + Enter: Execute the current (or last) prompt instantly—no mouse required

Auto Fit on Zoom – Enable Auto Fit to snap images to the window when zooming near the frame edge.
